I’ve wanted to make a satisfactory robot arm for a loooooong time now.
Today I whipped up this calculator. Please tell me if I botched anything?2017-09-12 at 15:04 #14020AnonymousInactiveI had to move the enum RotationType to a new Tab called RotationType.java to make it compile properly (I was getting an ENUM_DEF error).
I like the application and I think it could be useful to illustrate or at least provide a “feel” of how gravity affects a serial structure.
On the other side, if you want to use the tool for sizing purposes, you’ll probably need to go with a more complete dynamic model (adding inertia, external forces mapped with the Jacobian matrix, Coriolis, etc.).

2017-10-03 at 11:01 #14155DanKeymasterI’ve been out of town for ten days. Before I left I placed an order for bearings and motors to go with my latest design. I even printed some parts. Then the motors arrived and I discovered that there were critical differences between my understanding and reality. I thought some holes in the motors could be used to attach to the bones. Those holes are already in use for the gearbox. In at least one case the motor body shape did not match my model, and the design has to be radically changed to compensate. So it’s back to the drawing board!
