Hey everyone..
I have made a makelangelo 5 exactly the way Dan has made it, down to the self centering and the exact distance apart of the stepper motors. Even the board is in the same position even though this doesnt matter.
I am using the same firmware as dan and the Belt cogs are 20 tooth… 6mm cog, Everything.. but no matter what i do.. what i try..the image that i make is not the right size.. I tried drawing the boarder of an A4 SHEEt of paper.. and its drawing it as if it was a A0.. .
Everything is to big..
how can i fix this? has anyone else had this issue?

2017-07-20 at 15:47 #13537DanKeymastercheck your microstepping. they should all be on for 1/16th microstepping. also if you bought your steppers somewhere than us they’re probably only 200 step per turn (ours are 400)
2017-07-21 at 21:49 #13576AnonymousInactiveso here is a piece of code from the firmware..
#define MICROSTEPS (16.0) // microstepping on this microcontroller
#define STEPS_PER_TURN (400.0 * MICROSTEPS) // default number of steps per turn * microstepsIf i changed the 400 to a 200.. will that make it work for my stepper??
I have Nema 17’s which are only 200 steps
cheers
if not how can i alter this
THanks again dan
2017-07-23 at 02:42 #13587AnonymousInactivealso on changing the codes,
is there away to permanently changing the size of the makelangelo 5 machine size?? so that i dont have to use the custom setting always.cheers
2017-07-23 at 18:11 #13590AnonymousInactiveHello everyone,
Update again…
So for those following at home.. i changed the 400 steps to 200 and it made all the difference. its now at least drawing within its boundary and drawing in the right size.. more or less.I am still struggling with the bowing in the drawing.. its only slight really but its noticable when you do rectangles etc..
what could be causing it ?? im confident that the Center is correct.. i measured it and its all centred….
what could be casuing it
cheers
2017-07-24 at 20:17 #13602AnonymousInactivealso the drawing is seems to be squashed..
So when i drew a drawing of a SQUARE logo.. it turned out rectangle..
WHy is this..
My Size of my bot from bottom corner to bottom corner is 650mm the machine height is 1200….
it seems to drawing in the correct height but makes the drawing LONGER width ways..
any thoughts..
We are being quite people.. surely someone has come across this issue and solved it..
thanks2017-07-26 at 19:01 #13608AnonymousInactiveIts been very quiet here…
ANy thoughts anyone??
2017-07-30 at 14:25 #13631DanKeymastercheck the number of teeth on your pulley. we assume 20 teeth per pulley.
2017-07-30 at 16:49 #13633AnonymousInactiveHey buddy,
Yeah just counted it and there is definitely 20.2017-07-31 at 09:17 #13643DanKeymasterTry this tool: https://github.com/MarginallyClever/PolargraphDifference/
2017-07-31 at 17:26 #13649AnonymousInactiveOk thanks Dan,
that was nice and interactive and helped a little..
but i am so COnfusedThis is what i got.
I am using Nema 17 steppers, 200 steps per rev.
i changed that in the code.
i have 20 tooth pulleys and GT2 belts. But no matter what i do i am getting strange results. When i move to the left it measures 130mm and when i move up its half that distance…
WHY.. .Argh.. so this will explain why my drawings are squashed.. its only doing half the distance..But why.. why cant i get the X and Y to draw the same distance..
The Hardware is pretty much identical..How far from the top of the Machine should the home position be??
maybe that is the secret..
I am at a loss at the moment..
2017-07-31 at 18:13 #13650AnonymousInactiveMaybe i should just fork out for a stepper that does 400 steps… . i think that is the ONLY thing that is different from your M5…. .What do you think Dan you reckon that that would make all the difference/??
cheerr buddy
2017-08-06 at 16:21 #13699AnonymousInactivePlease someone hlep me out..
I need this to work
2017-08-06 at 19:34 #13708AnonymousInactivethis is a forum right… we are meant to be able to get some tech support here..
I know time is poor but i can see other questions are being answered.. but this one is being left on the back burner.. either its a known issue that cant be resolved or it an issue that you dont know the answer to..
