Marginally Clever Website Upgrade 2015

Marginally Clever Robots’ website has just been upgraded. Please use the contact form at the bottom of every page to tell us if you spot something amiss.  Read on for all the nitty gritty.

We spent a really long time searching for the right system to get us away from ZenCart, the old platform. ZenCart is free, which is great for a small startup. Unfortunately upgrading it was a disaster. As our needs grew, the site couldn’t keep up.  For about two years now we’ve been stuck in “it’s easier to stick with the devil we know.”  We looked for webmasters who could take us to the next level, we quietly tried other platforms, and in the end WooCommerce won out.

WooCommerce fits in our budget and gives us all kinds of things we’ve wanted for ages.

• One login for everything. No more registration problems.
• More beautiful everything
• The forums are now part of the site, so the look is consistent and it works better on your mobile device.
• Sidebars are finally back.  We couldn’t make them work in ZenCart without…trouble.
• A/B split testing!  We can try different versions of the site for different people and see what works best.
• Newsletter registration!  We couldn’t make that work in our old setup.
• Built on WordPress, a system we already know well.
• Some parts even come with a warranty.  Yessssss.
• Way better SEO – Our organic search results were already pretty badass, but now they’re even better.
• 404 monitoring – if you hit a broken link, it shows up in our reports and we can fix it.

So…. YAY!  This is a great step and I’m so happy we’ve finally made it.  Please give mad props to Jen for all the shop testing and awesomeness.
